Helping Pulitzer Center to inspire the next generation of journalists and global citizens

Message from Pulitzer Center requesting help to inspire next generation of journalists and global citizens:
2019 Reporting Fellows from our 36 partner colleges and universities gather for Washington Weekend. Image by Claire Seaton. United States, 2019.
Dear Friends,
How can we inspire the next generation of journalists and keen observers of the world around us?

We are working with 36 campus partners to do exactly that—and we need your help.
The Pulitzer Center’s Campus Consortium includes journalism schools, community colleges, schools of public health, HBCUs, and liberal arts colleges. Together we bring journalists onto campuses to share their reporting. To date we have supported more than 240 university and community events, from a two-day conference on religion and symposia on global health concerns to deep dives on photojournalism, conversations revolving around the future of food, and workshops on podcast production.
This year, we awarded reporting fellowships to 43 students from our partner universities. They traveled to 29 countries to cover issues related to migration, cultural identity, global health, gender roles, and climate change. At the Washington Weekend in October, they came together to share their stories—of a Yemeni activist in Brooklyn, the practice of so-called "virginity testing" in Morocco, the struggles for land rights among Indigenous people in Brazil, and many more.
The Pulitzer Center expands horizons—making possible opportunities students will treasure for years to come:
"The fellowship program was my first international reporting trip as an aspiring correspondent, and I would call it a life-altering experience. It has been the highlight of my graduate school experience."
—Angelica Ekeke, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism
"Being a Pulitzer fellow offered me the opportunity to have real experience in journalism. It strengthened my skills in learning to relate to people in another culture and my ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team."
—Shirin Alhroob, Forsyth Technical Community College
"To go to Japan and report on climate change was an opportunity I would not have had for years, if not decades, were it not for the Pulitzer Center."
—Daniel Merino, Boston University
Please help us deepen the relationships we have, develop new partners, and bring these extraordinary opportunities to even more students. If you would like to see your school (an alma mater or one in which you take a special interest) become a Pulitzer Center partner, reach out to us!
Yes, I’ll support the Pulitzer Center now!
And now you can increase your impact! Through December 31st, individual contributions (up to $1,000) will be doubled by NewsMatch!
All our thanks,
Ann Peters, Director, University and Community Outreach
Kem Sawyer, Director, Reporting Fellowships
