Gambia College Seeking Support to Establish an Arts Gallery
As part of their efforts to create Art Gallery at The Gambia College to preserve students' Art work and Achieves of The Gambia College - the Arts students forming the Art Exhibition at the Gambia College, led by their lecturer recently visited and made presentation at the Vision Development Foundation (VDF) branch office in Churchill's Town, during which VDF Chief Executive Officer offered D20,000 to complement their transport, and requested them to summit a project proposal to VDF.
Ramatoulie Sanyang- Art Educator and the Chairperson of the Art Exhibition held recently at The Gambia College said the exhibition aim to create a platform for students to express themselves, and also to showcase their creativity, talents, skills, and also aims to gather funds to establish an Art Gallery and get other materials needed for teaching and learning creativity.
She said in complementing the exhibition they are going round doing presentations on what they can do and trying to connect, seeking support to have a standard art gallery, which will serve as National gallery. "The College has been reshaping minds and making a lot. And at the end we have a lot of our products in society serving, making impact.
"We are still going on presentations, and among them is Momodou Turo Darboe who has been doing a lot for the College. He has been helping on various areas, which gave us courage to meet him, to explain to him what we need. He should have been our guest of honor, but unfortunately he could not make it. We understand he traveled. So we decided to meet him so that as usual he will help us to have the standard gallery that we yearn for. That's why we visited him, and he promised to help. We wait to see the results," she said.
Matis Bass one of the students said the purpose of their visits was to saw VDF CEO - Mr Momodou Turo Darboe the art works they did for him, and seek his support.
Mr Bass added that the theme of their recent exhibition is Changing the naratives of Art, noting that at The Gambia College they are going beyond drawing and painting. "We want to create Art Gallery for the works of Arts students to be preserved. Not only Arts, but any achieve at The Gambia College will be kept for history to be remembered. We are here to seek help towards the establishment of the Art Gallery," he said.
Saihou Fofana on behalf of the VDF CEO thanked the students for their visit. He acknowledged that Mr Darboe has been doing lot for The Gambia College, especially for the availability of information and communication, pointimg out that their visit will cement relationship between the Gambia College students and Vision Development Foundation (VDF).
Mr Fofana assured of their support to the Gambia College Arts Students and promised to pay visit to see what they can do together
The Gambia College Art Exhibition team meanwhile presented some of their Art Works, including design resembling Mr Darboes face done by the students, among related art wrok.
Mr Momodou Turo Darboe expressed appreciation and asked the students to write a project proposal on what they want and summit to VDF
