He encouraged PWD to engage actively in societal development and aspire to leadership roles, referencing former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki as an inspiring example. Annual General Meeting (AGM): The AGM on December 4 featured reports from GFD officials and representatives from 19 affiliated Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs). Discussions included annual work plans aimed at securing funding for activities that support PWD in their communities.
The theme for this year's IDPwD was “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” This theme aligns with global efforts to enhance visibility and participation of disabled individuals in leadership across various sectors. Speakers reinforced that legal protections are in place to support PWD, emphasizing their potential to contribute meaningfully to society. The GFD's IDPwD commemoration and AGM not only highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by persons with disabilities in The Gambia but also instilled a renewed sense of hope and empowerment among attendees. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, the federation continues to champion the rights and welfare of PWD, fostering an inclusive environment where they can thrive.
