VDF donates 11,485 bags of Sugar to needy communities, institutions since the Ramadan began

Wednesday, 27 March 2024, marked Vision Development Foundation (VDF) 4th edition of Ramadan Sugar Gifts to needy communities, making overal total of 11,485 bags of Sugar weighing 10 Kilos donated to needy communities, institutions and vulnerable groups from various parts of The Gambia. Distributions were held at VDF Office in Churchill’s Town in which a total of 4050 bags of Sugar were given to 46 communities and institutions from various parts of The Gambia. In this year's Ramadan VDF started their Annual Ramadan Sugar distributions on 15 March 2024 with 1500 bags weighing 10 Kilos; followed by 1700 bags weighing 10 kilos on 20 March; 2525 bags on 22 March; and the 4th day with 4050 bags weighing 10 Kilos, totalling to 11,485 bags of Sugar in 10 Kilos. "These are ongoing activities under the instructions of our able CEO Momodou Turo Darboe. During the Holly Month of Ramadan we normally do this to ensure we put smiles on the faces of those underprivileged people who find it very difficult to get sugar for their tea in the Month of Ramadan. And as you know VDF is well known for these type of gifts, ranging from sugar, rice, oil, meat and other things that we normally give out. "We also come out to give direct support in the areas of education, health and other areas of natural calamities or disasters. VDF is one of pionering institutions that have undertaking the journey of humanity to those under privileged," said Mr Saihou Fofana VDF Public Relations Director.
He expressed happiness that people they called turned up, and appealed for the donated items reach target beneficiaries. "VDF is one of piorneering institutions offering Ramadan gifts, and this is what we will be doing throughout the Ramadan, to put smiles on the faces of the less previledge," he said. Adama Jeng- VFD Deputy Chairman said Turo Darboe inherited such gestures from his father, and registered it as charity to maintain the support. Adding that they non-political in nature, and offering gifts for Allah's shake. MrJeng thank the media for their supports, to encourage other Gambians to emulate such gestures by popularising such humanitarian activities. "The initiative is Godly, not political, because Turo found his father doing it, and he emulate such good gestures from his father. Ousman Yabo, former TANGO Director said Mr Turo Darboe is one of those Gambians who supported thousands of people in need. "Turo is someone that help people who ask him for help, and even if you don't ask for help and he knew you are in need of help he help. "This is the only public show you see him giving Rice, Sugar, other food items from day 1 of Ramadan to the end. In addition Turo is a real philanthropist. I have witness where he help sick people for overseas treatment, identify his doctor, sponsoring transportation and feeding of such sick person and escorts from their familises for overseas treatment. Turo does this without people knowing. "He pay students fees up to Universities. He give women seed money to start their buisinesses, through which they grow. That have been happening for many years. "He also support develop delapidated community roads; build police stations, health centres, provide boreholes, and lot of things. For him helping people is his lifestyle. Turo is such a down to earth man, so kindhearted, so gentle, so jovial and simple. He give checks, cash, food- such as chicken, etc to people during Ramadan. May be there are people doing the same thing, but it's rare," said Mr Yabo, adding: "Turo is a specially made person, so generous." Mr Yabo therefore called on the media to support Turo, to encourage others to emulate him. Mr Wandifa Touray from Jarra Buiba - in Lower River Region- who also benefited-said they are usually invited every year when VDF is distributing sugar, adding: "We have him (Turo Darboe) in our prayers and we are praying for his continued success. He encourage other wealthy people to emulate Mr Darboe, by sharing their wealth with the poor. Muhammed Saidy - another beneficiary from Gunjur Sambuya in Kombo South District, West Coast Region said Allah encourage the Faithfuls to be supporting each other. "Therefore we thank Mr Darboe for the gesture. Allah want Muslims to support each other. Allah will pay those supporting others. No one knows the extend of these reward. If many others emulate such then people will not feel hardships," he said, and pray for Allah's blessings for Turo Darboe and VDF; as well pray for Allah's forgival, and for all Muslims to be granted Heaven.
22 March 2024 marked the third day of VDF) Ramadan Sugar donation with 2525 bags of Sugar weighing 10 kilos to Gambian Security Forces, national institutions, needy communities and vulnerable groups from various parts of The Gambia.
On 20 and 22 March respectively VDF donated about 4275 Bags of Sugar in 10 Kilos to various Gambian security forces units, namely the Army, Police, Immigration, Fire Services, Prison Services; national institutions, vulnerable and needy communities as part of their annual Ramadan Gifts. On 22 March 2024 marked the third day of Vision Development Foundation (VDF) Ramadan Sugar donation with 2525 bags of Sugar in 10 kilos to Gambian Security Forces, national institutions, needy communities and vulnerable groups. This was preceded by donation of 1750 bags of sugar in 10 Kilos to communities in the Kombos on Wednesday 20 March 2024, cumulatively making it a total of 4275 bags. The presentations were held at the Foundation's branch office in Churchill's Town in Serrekunda. Beneficiaries were drawn from various Gambia National Army Barracks and units namely - Yundum, Fajara, Basse and Farafenni Military Barracks; Gambia Navy, Defend Headquarters, Joint Services Headquarters, Mobile Traffic Unit of the Gambian Police, Police Stations and Posts in Bundung, Borehole, Serrekunda, Talinding, FajiKunda, Bakau, Kairaba, Brikama, Kotu, Wellingara, Kanifing, Farato, Brikama Salandinto; and Anti Crime Unit; Gambia Prison Services, Gambia Fire Services, Immigration Department, , Gambia Printing Services, Nawec Head Office, Nawec Water Tank in Serrekunda, Gambia Printing, Eye Africa TV, GRTS, Pa Nderry, Gamtel, Mr Mbye, Mr. Laye, and other vulnerable groups. Needy community members also gathered to receive breads, dates, tea, sugar and cash for their daily Ramadan Fast breaking.
Mr Saihou Fofana,VDF Board Member and Public Relation Officer (PRO) said the donations are made possible by the Foundation's able - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Mr Momodou Turo Darboe who is single handedly sponsoring the donations, as he believe in the spirit of sharing and caring, especially for the needy communities. He said those receiving the donations are appreciating the gesture, assuring continuity of the philanthropist's gesture, while urging beneficiaries to distribute the donated items judiciously. He also called on them to pray for the Foundation in their commitments to continue the gesture. Earlier on Wednesday, 20 March VDF held its second day Ramadan Sugar distribution at the same venue. Saihou Fofana, VDF -PRO said for over 25 years now VDF maintains the spirit of caring & supporting, which is a principle of their CEO; adding: "last Friday we started distribution of Sugar, rice and oil to needy people across The Gambia. We will continue. Today is our second phase. He explained that 18 Institutions, individuals and organisations are invited, and a total number of 1750 bags of sugar will be distributed to them. "This gesture is from Momodou Turo Darboe- VDF CEO," he said. He urged recipients to share the donated items judiciously. Pointing out that the principal objective is to share with those who need it most. Masanneh Gassama, on behalf of the Alkalo and Imam of Fajikunda said he was delegated to attend the annual distribution of Momodou Turo Darboe call for distribution of Charities; adding that Mr Darboe's support is not only in The Gambia, but known all over the world. He said Mr Darboe usually support the communities not only during Ramadan, but during Tobaski and other Feasts. He thank Mr Darboe for his support and prayed for his continued success Mr Ansumana Bayo Councilor KMC Ward Councilor for Latrikunda Sabi in his comments said VDF supports use to reach all the four corners of the country, from Koina to Kartong, Banjul to Basse, adding that he attended because there is cordial relationship between Momodou Turo Darboe and KMC that's why he came to represent the Mayor on behalf of the council. He prayed for VFD progress to reach where they aspire to reach, and for Allah's protection and VDF further advancement
Mr Landing Conteh on behalf on behalf of the Banjullinding Alkalo and Imam said: "it is said even a cup of sugar if you give it to a Fasting Muslim, no one know the limit of such reward for such reward. "We are happy with Modou Turo Darboe, and if he went to bed let him just be saying ameen. We cannot pay him. Only Allah can pay him. And we are praying for Allah to reward him good. From here am going directly to the Alkalo's compound, at the mosque. We don't know him.
